Learning in the Primate Saccadic System
Learning in the Primate Saccadic System
There have been two projects related to learning in the primate saccadic
system. Both use recent advances in floating-gate circuitry developed here
at Caltech in Prof. Carver Mead's
group.
The first involved the automatic adjustment of the burst gain
parameter in the burst generator model. This adjustment sought to match the
burst component of the saccade to the step component in order to reduce
post-saccadic drift.

The second involves the learning of a mapping from retinotopic to motor
coordinates. A photoreceptor array triggered by abrupt changes in light
intensity outputs a specific voltage dependent upon the position stimulated
in the array.
