- Job Description thru 08/15/03 -
I'm the Systems Administrator for the Graphics Group, located in Beckman Institute
at the northwest corner of the Caltech campus. We have HP, IBM and SGI unix
machines, along with a number of linux boxes. Our other PCs are mostly
Windows 2000 machines, the most recent being some 2+ Ghz screamers!
I work at keeping these critters and their network running, as well as handling
the upgrades of our video-teleconferencing equipment, which is linked to
five other universities around the country.
In more recent developments, the VTEL VideoConferencing system is
now talking in multi-way conferences over the TCPIP network at
speeds up to 1.920 Mbs, although we usually use a more modest
384 Kbs connection - the audio is somewhat better.
